Super Bomber-Man

Hi again, so for the second full game review I have chosen the first in the series of Super Bomberman games. The reasons for reviewing this game is down to a request from my Brother Ross, as we used to play this game on many an occasion and I would have to kick his arse over and over again!! Ha ha!

Anyway, down to the game. All the Bomberman games are great multi-player games. This was a reason to buy a multi-tap for your SNES. Playing this game with three other mates in your bedroom was so much fun and a lot better than playing through the single player game!

In multi-player the idea of the game is that each player controls a different colour Bomberman and starts in different corners of the playing field. Then by laying your bombs you must blow your way through the surrounding walls to get to the other players and then blow the crap out of them too. Simple hey? Not quite. Not only do other bombs ignite your bombs if they go off next to them but also power-ups are hidden all around the playing field in the forms of Bomb-Punch, Bomb-Kick, longer flames, multi-bombs, Golden Flames and Speed-up shoes!

This was a great game and was well worth the money as you kept on going back to it every time your mates came over (apart from when you were playing Street Fighter 2 or Mario Kart of course!)

So on to the single player game. This is a pretty easy game to complete with only a few levels and only the Bosses to worry about really! Also by use of a great little handy hint many levels can be completed in a matter of seconds...

At the start of each level Bomberman will be flashing, this signifies that the guy is invincible and therefore by dropping a bomb near your feet would kill you. So as soon as your level begins just keep dropping bombs and blow your way quickly towards the monsters and take out as many as possible before the invincibility runs out. (But be careful this does not happen too soon!)

Like in the Multi-player game you have the usual power-ups but also a few extras such as the timer-bombs that you can ignite when you want them too, Walk through walls, walk through bombs, Stop the clock, Extra lives and the best of all Invincibility Vest!!

By picking these up and using them the game should not give you much trouble and you should be able to complete it in a day. I completed the game in a couple of hours!

There are loads of different monsters in this game, some that just wonder around and wait to get blasted. Others like the blue Pac-Man guy that eats the bombs that you drop are are slightly trickier to kill.

You will also come across guys that dig into the ground and appear somewhere else, just to annoy you and guys that look like you bombs but they come after you and then blow up! (What a life for that creature!)

Like I said the only real tough monsters in this game are the end of level bosses and they normally just slide around the screen throwing shit at you until its had enough bombage and then they die...

The only boss that you may need a hand with is the very last one as the two guys you have been chasing throughout the game will come into the screen in a rocket and can only be hit my bombs that you punch up in the air as they fly past. By ready to loose a lot of lives in this level and watch how the timer runs out before you can kill him! ha ha, nice!

So basically a great game and one for everyone to add to their collection. If you haven't played it yet... do it! And then once done, try out the others in the series!

I give this game a explosive 85... out of 100!
*Kaaa... Boooommmm!!*
